About ISTEFAN CONSULTING LLC in Miami

The firm in plain terms

We are an independent consulting practice, not a division of a large accounting network. That means the people who scope your engagement are the people who do the work. It also means we can take on assignments that do not fit a large firm's minimum size or conflict rules, and we can say no when a project is not the right fit.

Our client base spans mid-market companies, family-owned businesses, and investors who need a clear read on a situation. Most arrive with a decision already half-formed and a deadline attached to it — a refinancing, a pricing reset, a purchase, a disagreement between owners about where the money should go next. Our job is to give them a defensible answer they can act on.

Who leads the practice

Evan M. Istefan, Director

Evan M. Istefan directs the firm and stays involved in client engagements from scoping through delivery. The practice was built around a straightforward idea: give owners and executives a direct line to the person doing the analysis, without layers of account management in between.

Clients who work with us usually deal with the same small team throughout the engagement. When a question comes up on a Thursday afternoon, it reaches the person who built the model, not a coordinator who has to route it. That is a small operational choice, and it changes how fast decisions move.

It also shapes what we accept. A practice this size lives on the quality of its last engagement, so the director reads the same numbers the client reads, and the recommendation is the one he would stand behind if he were sitting in the owner's chair.

Why Miami, and what it means for clients

Miami is not a backdrop for us. It is where we work, and it shapes the client mix. South Florida's economy runs on finance, healthcare, insurance, aviation, consumer services, and international trade, and the region acts as a bridge between the United States and Latin America.

Many of our clients are cross-border by default: US companies with operations abroad, foreign groups establishing a US presence, or ownership split across countries. Being here makes it easier to meet in person, understand local market conditions, and work in the time zones our clients operate in.

Finance and insurance

Banking, wealth, and specialty insurance groups that need pricing, capital, and reporting work to hold up under scrutiny.

Healthcare and consumer services

Multi-site operators weighing expansion, margin repair, or a change in ownership structure.

Aviation and logistics

Operators and service providers whose costs, routes, and contracts cross borders as a matter of routine.

International trade

Importers, distributors, and family groups moving goods and capital between the US and Latin America.

If your sector is not on this list, that is not a disqualifier. It usually means the first call is about whether the problem is one we should be solving at all. See the sectors we cover in more detail on our Industries We Serve page.

How we work with clients

We start by understanding the decision in front of you, not by selling a methodology. The first conversations are about your numbers, your constraints, and what a good outcome looks like. Nobody signs anything until that picture is clear on both sides.

From there we propose a scope with defined deliverables and a fee. The scope is written so you can tell what is included and what is not, including the parts your own team will own. During the engagement we work alongside your team rather than around it, because the people who have to run the business afterward need to understand what changed and why.

First conversations

Your numbers, your constraints, and a written read on what a good outcome looks like before any engagement letter is signed.

During the engagement

We work alongside your team, hand over the reasoning behind each change, and leave the analysis where your people can find it later.

What we bring to an engagement, and what we do not do

What we bring

  • Strategy and operating model design. Where the business competes, what it stops doing, and how the organisation is arranged around those choices.
  • Performance improvement, cost, and margin. Pricing, product mix, procurement, and overhead work — grounded in the numbers your own reporting already produces.
  • Working capital and cash forecasting. Forecasts and lender-facing schedules that hold up when a bank or an investor asks the follow-up question.
  • Due diligence, transaction support, restructuring. Buy-side and sell-side support, plus turnaround work when a business needs a plan its stakeholders will accept.
  • We are comfortable in situations where the answer is not obvious and the data is incomplete, which describes most real decisions. We are also comfortable saying that a problem is better handled by your CPA, your attorney, or an internal team, and we will coordinate rather than duplicate.

What we do not do

  • We do not audit financial statements, and we do not issue audit opinions. That work belongs to a licensed accounting firm, and we are happy to coordinate with yours.
  • We do not prepare tax returns or provide legal representation. Where a matter is legal or tax in substance, we say so and point you to a professional who handles it.
  • We do not promise specific outcomes. Consulting depends on decisions that clients and their stakeholders make, and on conditions outside anyone's control.
  • We do not take engagements where we cannot add something concrete. If your situation calls for a different kind of adviser, we would rather point you in the right direction than take the work.

How we think about value

Value in consulting shows up in decisions that still hold up later. A pricing change that sticks. A cash forecast lenders accept. A deal that closes without a surprise six months in.

We measure our work against what actually changed in the business, not against the length of a report. That standard keeps engagements focused and keeps us honest about what is achievable — including when the honest answer is that a project should be smaller than first described.

Working across borders

Cross-border work brings its own complications: different reporting standards, currency exposure, regulatory expectations, and the practical question of who has authority to decide.

We have handled engagements where the parent company, the US subsidiary, and the local management team all had different views of the same numbers. Getting those views aligned is often the real work, and it usually matters more than the analysis itself.

Confidentiality and professional conduct

Client information stays confidential. We work under written agreements that define scope, fees, and how information is handled, and we expect the same discretion from the people we work with.

If an engagement creates a conflict with an existing client, we disclose it and decline the work rather than manage around it. That is a smaller pipeline and a cleaner one, and it is the reason clients can hand us sensitive numbers without wondering who else will see them.

What a first conversation covers

We ask what decision you are facing, what the numbers currently say, and what constraints you cannot move. If the situation is clearer after one call, we will tell you so and you will have lost nothing but an hour.

If it is not, we will propose a scope with defined deliverables and a fee before anything begins. No retainers are assumed, and no work starts without a written agreement.
